Day 7 – 2017 Fasting (Sunday)

And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near (Hebrews 10:24-25).

The church in America is undoubtedly under attack. Everything from lukewarmness, to sin, to the absence of sound doctrine, the church is under attack. What was, at one time in history, the place where people went for answers, including those in government, today has come under fire. More and more, the voice of the church – the body of Christ – is trying to be silenced.

As many of us get ready to come together in worship in our respective houses of worship, let us pray and fast for the church. Not the building, but the people that God has called to be the hands, feet, eyes, ears, and mouth of Jesus Christ on this earth. Pray that revival would break out to such an extent that our cities would be revolutionized.

Pray that the church would take the authority given by Christ to be witnesses. Pray that the church would lead in the midst of a fallen world and not follow fads, waves of “doctrine” and watered down teaching. But instead that we would rise up and unapologetically share the Good News of the gospel,  boldly shine the light of Jesus Christ, and tirelessly love people until they come to the realization that Jesus is the way, the life, and the truth.

Pray that the church may stand firm and hold on to the sound teaching of the Word of God despite the “flexibility” of man, the lies of the enemy, and the deceptions that come in the most subtle of ways; that the Word of God may prevail in the hearts of His people. Pray that God’s people would be one and give no room for division, strife, or any other weapon the enemy uses to bring shame to the body of Christ.

Pray that we would not become so religious that we can’t relate to a changing world, but not so relevant that we find ourselves lost in a dark world, holding on to what used to be a bright light. “Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in Heaven.”
