Day 5 – 2017 Fasting (Friday)

On January 13th, 2017, posted in: 21 Day Fast 2017, Devotionals by | 4 Comments

I’ll be the first one to admit that the following examples may be somewhat morbid. But imagine for a moment if you found yourself in a burning building needing to get out (God forbid)? Or what if you found yourself in an airplane that has gone down and you have survived the tragedy (God forbid)? Would you remain in the building looking for you cell phone, favorite outfit, or comfy comforter? Would you delay exiting a plane in flames because you were to busy dragging your carry-on luggage? Probably not! I know I wouldn’t. Why? Simple. Your life – my life – depends on it. It’s time to run for your life.

What if I told you that maybe – just maybe – there are some non-essential things that may be holding you back in the race we call life? Sometimes God wants to deal with us with urgency and we don’t surrender -we don’t speed up the process – because we allow the non-essentials of life to hold us back from the things that are really important. Sometimes God wants to take us from point A to point B in the fastest time possible but we delay the process because we are too busy holding on to and dragging things, habits, old burdens, guilt…that should have been cut off a long time ago.

When runners run a professional race, they often strip down to the bare minimum. Why? Because any unnecessary weight will slow them down.

Scripture says, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.” (Heb 12.1" data-version="esv" data-purpose="bible-reference">Hebrews 12:1)

As you fast and pray today, ask the Holy Spirit to bring to memory those things that you may have to lay aside. What are the things that are slowing down your process and your progress? Is it procrastination? Unforgiveness? Sin?  Guilt? Bad Temper? Control? Laziness? ________________?

Let’s run the race with endurance, tenacity and focus. Why not? We are running to win. Aren’t we?

Here are some scripture verses to read and meditate on throughout the day: (Click on the verses to read them on www.Biblegateway.com).

Proverbs 4:25-27, 1 Cor. 9:24-27, Ephesians 5:17, Phil. 3:13-14, Col. 3:2, Heb.2 :1, Heb. 13:5

Letting go of the weight with you,

Pastor Charles

As I ponder on this devotion I think about all the things I let control my mind. Even the things that are very real in the physical. Today I pray and fast that the attitude of my mind be renewed in Christ!
I stand on the promises of God’s word and declare them as I walk forth in this life!
May no weapon form against me prosper and may God’s plans for my life sucess as continue to chase after Him.
Thank you Pastor Charles for these powerful devotionals that are pushing us forward to be all we cam be in Him!!
I pray blessings and favor over your life in Jesus name!

What a powerful devotion Pastor. I would have to agree that our mindset, negative habits, etc. can be a tremendous hinderdess in our journey. It is only when we put self to the side that every other area can be conquered & we can walk in His fullness. Thank you for sharing Pastor.

WOW it’s 1:15pm and I can say it has been a blessing. God has confirmed for me what I need to do to get ready for what is about to happen. Get rid of all that is in the way of me seeing his plan. I want to make room for all the convent relationships that I, God and other will be building. GLORY TO GOD!!!
