Day 21 – 2017 Fasting (Sunday)

Has it been twenty-one days already? As always (and I say this every year), this is a bitter-sweet day for me. Bitter (so-to-speak) in that I’ve come to the end of not only walking this 21 day journey of fasting, but that I come to the end of it with so many people I have had the honor of framing a devotional for. It’s been an honor, yet at the same time humbling, hearing how God has ministered to you through the daily fasting devotionals. This time is also sweet in that I get to have a cup of coffee tomorrow evening sometime (don’t judge me).  More importantly, sweet in that I get to see and experience what God has in store for the rest of 2017.

So where do we go from here? Is this the end of something or the beginning? Let me suggest that if you look at this as the end of a list of sacrifices and dive into life as usual – what life was like prior to the fast – you may miss out on something greater.

Let me put it in these terms. Over my lifetime I’ve often been intrigued by the construction of commercial properties. You know the skyscraper type. One of the intriguing aspects is one the initial phases of construction. I often see a lot of activity going on on the site but nothing seems to be happening on the surface. Usually it is because  all the efforts are going into digging and establishing a foundation.

So to, this fast is not the end. It’s only the beginning. It’s the beginning of building on the foundation you have established over the last 21 days. Build on the spiritual disciplines of prayer, reading the Word, spending more time in the presence of God, worrying less about food, doing less of what wastes your time and more of what has eternal value.

I’m standing in agreement with you for a supernatural year. May your (our) life be more sensitive to the voice and guidance of the Holy Spirit. May this year be a year of supernatural influence. May we serve as influential ambassadors of Jesus Christ wherever we go.

Let’s fast and pray that this would be a year of building on a strong foundation. Fast and pray that we would move forward not only in faith but also in action; doing what God has called us to do. Being what God has created us to be. May this be a year of not only expectation but also of seeing the manifestation of the things God has promised in Jesus’ name.

Here are some scripture verses to read and meditate on throughout the day: (Click on the verses to read them on (

Matthew 7:24, Luke 9:62, Galatians 5:16, Hebrews 10:23, James 2:14-17, James 4:17

Believing for a supernatural year with you,

Pastor Charles

P.S. Write to us via e-mail, Facebook, or post on this daily blog…we would love to hear what God has done and is doing with you as you meditated on these devotionals and spent time in the presence of God! Blessings to you now and always!
