What if I told you that one of the greatest assets or blessings you have cannot be touched, smelled, tasted, or seen; at least not with the human senses?
Let me say it another away. Imagine you’ve been walking with a parent consistently for years. You share love, laughs, tears, and dreams together. All of a sudden – vanished! What do you do? You’ve been used to the audible voice, the touch, the smell, and the look of a person you loved; and now they’re gone. What do you do? What did the disciples do? Where they left alone? Were they abandoned?
I’m afraid that in a society where the only thing we perceive as real is what we can touch, smell, see, hear, and taste with our physical senses, we have missed out on our number one friend – the Person of the Holy Spirit. Jesus did say, “I will not leave you orphaned.” So powerful is the person of the Holy Spirit that in moments when things seem sooooo difficult that you don’t have the right words to pray, “…the Spirit also helps in (your) our weaknesses; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words” (Romans 8:26).
It is the Holy Spirit that has been promised to you to serve as counselor, teacher, comforter, and one the makes intercession for you. Wow, could it be that in an effort to feel, touch, and physically hear, we have become too dependable on people, while the Holy Spirit waits to guide us, comfort us, speak to us and be our friend?
I challenge you during this time of Fasting and Prayer to welcome the Holy Spirit and seek a deeper intimacy and a keen ear to his voice. Why shouldn’t you if…The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God?
As you begin to take this challenge you will begin to get a sense of direction, hope and peace. You will get a deeper sense of compassion for others, a deeper connection with God and a sense that He is hearing you. Where is this coming from? From your relationship with the Holy Spirit.
