Day 14 – 2017 Fasting (Sunday)

Wake up, go to work, come home, eat dinner, wind down, and do it all again the next day. Sound familiar? That daily cycle of life has the tendency to cause people to limit their view to what’s in front of them. As a result, the life outside of that “vicious cycle” becomes very unfamiliar. But it does not mean it does not exist.

Within that larger scope of life are missionaries, pastors, families, and millions of people, here and abroad, that do not enjoy the comforts of life we enjoy. They need our prayers and they need our support.

While traveling overseas, I had a first-hand experience of the look of relief on a mother’s face when she was handed a bag with the most basic of foods – rice, beans, and flour. Or how about the appreciative look on a teenager’s face when handed a tube of toothpaste or a bar of soap – priceless.

“Oh man,” was the sound of discontent from a teenagers mouth during one of our mentoring nights in our city, when he found out that the food distribution we offer would not be happening until the following Friday night. When we probed a little further we found out that he had very little to eat and even when he would arrive at home the night, things would not look much brighter. Yes, here in America; in our own backyard (Yes, we got him some food. As a matter of fact, we when ahead and provided food for all the students present that night). This too is missions.

Fast and pray for the least of these. That we would be so moved that our prayers, time, talents, and treasures would become the answered prayers for the many that cry our to God for provision on a daily basis. Pray for our missionaries that are dedicating their lives to being the mouth, hands, feet, eyes, and ears of Jesus Christ to those around the world. Fast and pray that God would accelerate their work and the masses would come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and that no weapon formed against them would prosper.

Here are some scripture verses to read and meditate on throughout the day: (Click on the verses to read them on

2 Chron.6:33, Isaiah 49:6, Daniel 7:13-14, Mark 13:10, Luke 10:2, John 4:34-38
