It truly is an honor to be able to join with you once again in a 21 Day Fast. I look forward to providing a framework or at least some tools to help you throughout the next 21 days. Whatever type of Fast you have chosen, stick with it, you will not regret it.
I walked into a living room sometime ago during a visit out of town and what I saw should have shocked me, but it didn’t. Every single person around the living room, and dining room for that matter, had their heads bowed. Praying? Unlikely! They were looking down at their individual telephone screens; glued to games, social media, emails, and God knows what else. The new level of socialization, I thought. I have to admit, I wasn’t one bit happy and it took everything in me not to throw a fit (hey, I’m human).
As I pondered on what I had just seen, I realized that though social media and technology has many wonderful uses, it was serving to confine people to a lifestyle of limitations; limited in conversation, limited in (true) relationship building, limited in public and physical social skills, limited in spending valuable time in things of significance, and the list goes on.
May I invite you today to begin this FAST by coming out of your tent of limitation (Genesis 15:5)? Take an inventory of your life and allow the Holy Spirit to show you all those things that have attempted to limit your progress. What is it? Too much social media? Poor time management? Unbridled spending? Feelings of inferiority, incompetence, or shame? Is it fear?
Spend time in God’s presence and make a commitment to move beyond limitations and conformity and into God’s purpose and design for your life. If you can move past those limitations, you will move into the greater things that God wants to say to you and do through you over the next 21 days and for the rest of this year. Are you ready? Let’s begin!
Normally I would invite you to make a prayer with me. Not today. Instead, I encourage you to go before the Lord and speak from the heart. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal those things that have kept you confined. As your spirit gets stirred, keep praying; an awakening will take place as you step into this new and exciting journey.
Here are some scripture verses to read and meditate on throughout the day: (Click on the verses to read them on www.biblegateway.com).
